Episode 0: We are pivoting
It’s become clear that negotiation is a concept many - both men and women - want to get better at, but the best way to focus on that message is to build a genderless platform.
Welcome!
👋 Yo! Thanks for subscribing of How to Negotiate where you learn how to grow your career and income with better negotiation strategy in less than 5 minutes.
👇️ We’re pivoting
It’s been a pretty insightful week. I’ve had dozens of conversations about my newsletter getting feedback on the content, direction, and focus when I promoted my newsletter on LinkedIn.
It’s become clear that negotiation is a concept many - both men and women - want to get better at, but the best way to focus on that message is to build a genderless platform.
So from today we are dropping ‘like the man’ and solely focusing on tips for career advancement (in the spirit of negotiation) for minorities.
Given my identity as first gen and underrepresented minority, I’ll also be highlighting my story and the stories of other minorities - men and women - to educate on the inequities of the workplace and how the majority can be better allies.
I’m super thankful to everyone who took the time to share feedback both positive and negative and for the folks who were kind enough to join the advisory board to help continue to provide input into the future direction of the newsletter.
🌟 My mission statement
To help minorities grow their income and careers with clear and actionable tips and educate the majority on the challenges minorities face.
✅ How I plan to do that
The newsletter will have two parts:
The first part will introduce a challenge (usually data-driven) bringing awareness to a challenge minorities face in the workplace
The second part will walk through a tip / tactic any minority can use to better their negotiation skills and get promoted faster
I recognize that as a male my perspective here is biased for female readers, so a few commitments:
Highlighting women as part of the research / references / resources
Inviting women to guest blog
Use this newsletter to share actual stories (anonymously) of women in real situations
Inviting skeptics to join my advisory board to hold me accountable to this mission
🙏 How you can help
For non-minorities reading - let’s acknowledge that the challenges minorities face are real and commit to becoming more educated about how we can be better advocates and supporters.
For minority readers - share your tips/tricks anonymously by following the link below👇️
I look forward to earning your trust a bit more each week. Any and all feedback/suggestions are welcome! See ya next week 👋
